Welcome back...

We are delighted to welcome Charlotte Gray to the Beaverbrook Library once again.  She has been generous in giving previous lively presentations to support our club's educational goals.

Charlotte is one of Canada’s best known writers and author of twelve acclaimed books of literary non-fiction. Her biographies, including Sisters in the Wilderness: The lives of Susanna Moodie and Catharine Parr Traill  and Reluctant Genius: The Passionate Life of Alexander Graham Bell, and intriguing narratives Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike, and The Massey Murder, have brought our past to vivid life.

Charlotte's most recent work is Passionate Mothers, Powerful Sons: The Lives of Jennie Jerome Churchill and Sara Delano Roosevelt. It is a dual biography of two famous women whose sons would change the course of the 20th century and it will be the topic of her presentation at this event. 

About Charlotte...

Charlotte has earned numerous awards for her work including the prestigious Pierre Berton Award for a body of historical writing, and the UBC Medal for Biography. Educated at Oxford University and the London School of Economics, Charlotte began her writing career in England as a magazine editor and newspaper columnist.

After coming to Canada in 1979, she worked as a political commentator, book reviewer, and magazine columnist before she turned to biography and popular history. Charlotte is an adjunct professor at Carleton University, a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and a Member of the Order of Canada. She lives in Ottawa.
