Designing Equality:
Legal Strategies to Close the Gender Gap in Leadership Roles

Lori Anne will discuss questions and preliminary findings emerging from her PhD research.

Inspired by women’s lived experiences, Lori Anne is focused on identifying the major barriers to women’s, particularly racialized women’s, advancement in senior leadership roles. She is exploring organizational and legal changes that best close this gender gap in advancement.

Her strategic goal is to propose practical solutions that take full advantage of legal supports that can survive legal challenge. These are expected to include private sector incentives and tax reforms.

Lori Anne is driven to have her research be applied and make a difference.

Lori Anne Heckbert is a recent recipient of the CFUW's Dr. Alice E. Wilson Award, and of the Shirley Greenberg Scholarship for Graduate Studies in Law.

She has an extensive business background including leadership of a 42-person team at a Fortune 100 company’s global headquarters, where she was responsible for leading strategic efforts to increase value and reduce cost in a $4.5B annual spend envelope.

Previously, she served as  senior legal counsel at Accenture, negotiating large complex international services contracts. She is a former Partner of McCarthy T├ętrault LLP where she practiced corporate-commercial and technology law for nine years. She has worked as a management consultant engaged in complex Aboriginal self-government negotiations, and is a member of the bars of Ontario & New York.
