Certified and Licensed Nia Instructor
Nia Moving to Heal Practitioner
Barbara Carriere is a Certified Black Belt Nia Teacher. She has completed intensive trainings in Toronto, Santa Fe (New Mexico), and at Nia headquarters in Portland, Oregon. She has trained with national and Iinternational trainers as well as with Debbie Rosas, co-creator of Nia.
The Nia Technique is a body-mind spirit fitness practice combining Martial Arts, Dance Arts, and Healing Arts. Balancing technical precision and freeform expressive play, Nia emphasizes creativity, conditioning, community and individual exploration. With a philosophy rooted in cultivating awareness, experiencing the joy of movement and celebrating uniqueness, Nia delivers a fun, effective and powerful life practice for all ages and movement experience levels. Nia is for everybody. Classes can be done sitting in a chair or standing.
In addition to teaching Classic Nia classes in Ottawa and Perth, Barbara teaches Nia Moving To Heal classes designed for specialty populations, including individuals seeking ways to feel better when dealing with wide range of issues such as stress, injury, long or short term illness, balance, movement challenges or the overwhelm of Life.
Barbara’s once-in-a-lifetime experience of successfully climbing Kilimanjaro pales in comparison to her love of Nia and the joy of movement. Barbara loves to teach and awaken in others the desire to feel better, to move, to dance, to be fit, to self-express through fitness that is pleasurable and joyful rather than strenuous and painful, and to find passion for themselves and the world around them.
